Matjaz Mulej

I met Matjaz Mulej at the the 11th ANZSYS conference in Christchurch in December 2005. He is a Professor Emeritus (Systems and Innovation Theory), University of Maribor, Slovenia andi the Vice-President of IFSR
( International Federation for Systems Research)

Prof. Micael Barnsley

I met Michael Barnsley at a conference in Surfer's Paradise in July 2007. He featured in a television programme I saw in 1995 called Colours of Infinity, when I first learned about chaos and complexity.

Sam BowlesI met Sam Bowles from the Santa Fe Institute when he came and gave a talk at our local university. I was able to organise a chat over coffee before the talk.

logo for cynefinThe Cynefin Centre  is an international network that focuses on the application of complexity science to management and organisational practice. The Centre spun off from IBM in July 2004 and will be based in a network of academic institutions.
At the heart of the Cynefin Centre is a distinction between ordered and unordered systems, and the consequent recognition that systems with fundamentally different qualities require the application of contextually differentiated methods for both diagnosis and intervention.

The Cynefin Centre has three interlinked focus areas:

SOCIAL COMPLEXITY: helping to establish this new discipline, applying complexity science to human systems

OPEN SOURCE: the creation of an open source movement for consultancy practice and theory based on social complexity

DISTRIBUTED RESEARCH: development of trans-disciplinary research based on emergence, participation and co-evolution

ECO logoEmergence: Complexity & Organization (E:CO) is an international and interdisciplinary conversation about human organizations as complex systems and the implications of complexity science for those organizations. With a unique format blending the integrity of academic inquiry and the impact of business practice, E:CO integrates multiple perspectives in management theory, research, practice and education. E:CO is a quarterly journal published in print and online by The Complexity Society, the Institute for the Study of Coherence and Emergence, and the Cynefin Centre for Organizational Complexity in accordance with academic publishing standards and processes.
